There's nothing we like more than a visit to a beautiful Melbourne garden on an early summer morning and the Victoria State Rose Garden in Werribee Park has 5,500 blooms on show every year from October til July.

Peak rose times are November and March when you can expect to find luscious flowers covering every corner of the garden. However, given their claim that flowers would be on offer from "October to July"  we decided to venture in summer to see what a warm January day might offer for flower lovers. And yes, there are still plenty of gorgeous roses in bloom to enjoy with all sorts of varieties and colours. The garden is perfect for some lovely wedding photos or a quiet stroll. Meander down the gravel path and you'll find lovely floral archways, cascading bushes and endless lined rows of floral beauty. There's a cute rotunda in the middle to centre any wedding photos and lots of park benches to stop during your quiet stroll.

The garden itself was relatively quiet on a summer weekday and there were plenty of parking spaces available including some shady spots.

The State Rose Garden is maintained by hundreds of volunteers year round and it's clear that there's a solid amount of effort behind these beautiful blooms. Apparently it's even won the International Garden of Excellence award.

For those who aren't local Melbourne westies and are wondering how to make a day of it, it's right next to Werribee Park mansion which has a lovely cafe as well as tours of the buildings. There are picnic spots just down the road to enjoy time with family and friends. Or you can hang out with the giraffes right next door at Werribee Open Range Zoo 🦓

9am - 5.30pm Monday-Sunday, 365 days a year.
